Cilician Catholicosate Gulbenkian Foundation Undertake Venture

ANTELIAS–Lebanon–The Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia and the Department of the Armenian Affairs of Gulbenkian Foundation jointly will sponsor the publication of Armenian ancient literature.

This major cultural initiative has been taken by His Holiness Aram I together with Dr. Zaven Yegavian–the director of Armenian Affairs of Gulbenkian foundation–as a concrete manifestation of their commitment to the promotion of Armenian cultural values.

Through the close partnership between the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia and Gulbenkian foundation–important projects have been realized in the area of culture and education.

On this occasion His Holiness Aram I stated: This is the first time that complete series of Armenian ancient literature and patrology will be published. This project is of decisive importance for the Armenian scholarship and particularly for Armenology–since this publication will make available the Armenian original sources in the area of Armenian history–culture and theology–to scholars and students .

A special committee under the supervision of His Holiness Aram I and under the leadership of Archbishop Zareh Aznavorian will be in charge of this project. All the Armenian libraries both in Armenian and Diaspora will get copies from this publication.

It is important to note that this major project will be realized on the occasion of the 1600th anniversary of the invention of the Armenian alphabet.

It is also important to remind the readers that the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia–again with the collaboration of Gulbenkian foundation–has already realized the publication of Ormanian s Azkabadoum .

The presentation of this four-volume publication will take place on the occasion of the National Assembly of the Catholicosate.
