New York Life Issue Discussed in France

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A company headed by Vardges Yeghiayan–a famous American Lawyer of Armenian origin–has submitted a claim to the American court against the great American "New York Life" company–which was engaged in life insurance in 1915. The claim is connected with the non-fulfillment of insurance obligations by the company in relations to Armenia’s–who lived in the Georgian territory. Yeghiayan reported about it at a forum of Armenian lawyers of the Association of Armenian Unions of Europe–which was held in Paris on February 2-3.

Yeghiayan also reported that as a result of the consistent work of the employees of his company–the lists of Armenia’s insured in Western Armenia have been received. He added that with these findings–it became clear that the New York Life Insurance company was well aware of the fact that insured Armenia’s became victims of Genocide.

The claim submitted by Yeghiayan’s company –on the demand of retaining insurance sums–is satisfied–and now the size of these sums must be decided jointly with New York Life.

Armenian lawyers that participated in the forum considered Vardges Yeghiayan’s work highly–both from the point of view of receiving the insurance sums and from the point of view of the approval of the fact of the genocide itself. Armenian Ambassador to Central Europe and OSCE Jivan Tabibyan mentioned that in spite of the successful resolution of juridical problems–they are not enough for the resolution of political problems. Nevertheless–according to him–it gives an opportunity to return to territorial issues in the future.
