Karabakh Parliament Asserts Program On Public Health for 2002

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–This year–the Nagorno Karabakh National Assembly asserted an annual program on public health presented by the government. According to Zoya Lazaryan–the Nagorno Karabakh Minister of Public Health–the program is directed at preserving the health of mother and child–the socially needy strata of the population–the treatment of diseases which have social importance–the strengthening of hygienic and anti-epidemiological measures.

Eduard Aghabekyan–the Chairman of the Nagorno Karabakh National Assembly Commission on Social Affairs–mentioned that the sphere of Public Health must be financed not according to the residual principle but as a strategical sphere. He stressed that in developed countries the budget foresees $2,400 per person–while in Karabakh the budget totals to $14-15 per person.
