Armenfilm Begins Production With Dutch Russian French Studios

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The shootings of three features and two animated films will be finished this year. The premieres of two of them–Ludmila Sahakiants’s "Songs" and Harutiun Khachatrian’s "The Documentalist," fiction full-length pictures will be held at the end of February. Director of the Armenfilm Studio Gevorg Gevorgian told Noyan Tapan that the shootings of the first and second parts of Arman Manarian’s "Sasuntsi David" and Robert Sahakiants’s "Tavern of Tales" will be finished soon as well.

Gevorgian says that nowadays it is very difficult to produce a film with state funds only–although 95 percent of the films have been shot by state order only. Gevorgian believes that when it is impossible to produce films with state funds–it is necessary to look for alternate sources of funding.

Currently–it is very advantageous to produce joint films in order to improve the film production in Armenia and enter the international market. He said that in 2002–the studio will start producing films jointly with the Dutch–Russian and French studios.

Shootings of three full-length films pictures will also start this year – Harutiun Khachatrian’s "Jivani" film–Ruben Hovsepian’s "And The War Is Still On" and Edik Baghdassarian’s "Mariam". The shootings–according to Armenfilm Director Gevorgian–will be financed by sponsors.
