Foreign Ministry Regrets Israeli Genocide Remarks

YEREVAN (Arminfo)–The consolidation of Armenian-Israeli relations might become a basis for reviewing Tel-Aviv’s current position on the 1915 Armenian genocide in Ottoman Turkey–Dzyunik Agajanyan–press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry–said in a conversation with Arminfo’s correspondent–commenting on the statement by the Israeli ambassador to Armenia–Rivka Cohen–that it was inadmissible to draw comparisons between "the tragedy of the Armenian people and the Holocaust".

"It is sad that the political leadership of the nation which went through the Holocaust continues to adhere to such a position–based on unclear political reasons," Agajanyan pointed out–stressing that the current position of the State of Israel was substantiated only politically.

At present–official Tel-Aviv does not recognize the 1915 Armenian genocide–insisting that what had happened in Ottoman Turkey was not genocide–but mass killings of Armenia’s.
