Abkhazian Armenia’s Urge UN to Lift Sanctions

TBILISI (Armenpress)–Groong–a public organization of Armenia’s in Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia–sent a message to the secretary general of UN Kofi Anan–requesting that political and economical sanctions imposed on the separatist republic by international organizations and CIS member countries be invalidated.

The message–also published in Respublika Abkhazia Daily–reads–"Abkhazia has gained independence by fighting back Georgia’s occupational troops–but Tbilisi has managed to mislead the international community that has led to imposing sanctions against Abkhazia."

The message goes on to say that the sanctions violate the elementary human rights of the citizens–including restrictions on traveling–which makes impossible for local Armenia’s to communicate with their relatives outside Abkhazia–including Armenia.

Groong requests that Koffi Anan should help resolve this "antihuman’situation–which runs counter to UN Regulations and Universal Declaration of Human Rights."
