Georgian Analyst Warns About Overlooking Javakhk

TBILISI (Armenpress)–One of the leaders of Georgia’s Republican Party–political analyst Ivlian Khaindravan warned against neglecting resolution problems of the predominately Armenian-populated region of Javakhk–where leaders of two Armenian organizations have come up with deman’s for autonomy.

"Negligence of these problems will turn into a complete chaos in the region of South Caucasus," he was quoted as saying.

"This danger is realized by all clever politicians–and in Yerevan as well," he said–accusing the Georgian authorities of being unable to solve any serious problems. "When they see they cannot solve a problem they just push it aside–only flaring up the situation," he said.

Ivlian Khaindrava also said that thinking that there is only a group of extremists acting in Javakhk who are not supported by the majority of the population is merely a self-delusion.

"Moreover–the worse thing is that the key levers for raising the tension and aggravating the overall situation are not in Yerevan but in Moscow–where the South Caucasus chaos is not deemed as a mortal threat to the Russian statehood," he said.

Khaindrava thinks that Javakhk is the region to which special attention must be paid. He particularly suggests establishment of local self-governmental bodies. According to him–Georgia will face disintegration if the situation in Javakhk gets similar to that in the Pankisi Gorge.
