YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The annual US State Department report on human rights says that human rights conditions have improved in Armenia over the last year–but in general–the situation is far from being satisfactory.
The state department report said that although no political assassinations were reported in 2001–several political leaders have had excessive control over various voting.
The state department also cites cases of death in police isolation cells and the army. It also says that conditions in Armenian prisons are dangerous for life–though there has been a slight improvement. The report also indicates a number of religious restrictions.
