Ordway Sees Difference in Aid and Population Count

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The amount of US aid to Armenia is not contingent on the strength of the local population," US Ambassador to Armenia John Ordway stated during the opening of the center for processing data of the population census at the Armenian National Statistical Service.

He also said that the calculations of the aid volume are quite complicated–and they will not change with the alterations in the number of the population. Armenia is one of the principal recipients of US aid–and according to the ambassador–"during the next several years it will probably remain as such."

Ordway says the United States shows a number of initiatives directed to security–stability–and ensuring prosperity in the South Caucasus–and are decisively inclined to continue this way regardless of any changes in population number.

It should be mentioned that with the purpose of helping Armenia conduct a census of the population in 2001–the US supplied the country with computer equipment and specialized technical aid worth a total of $1 million.
