Markarian Meets UNDP Chair at Mexico Meeting

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Margarian met with UNDP Director Mark Bulrock Brown in Monterrey–Mexico–on March 19.

Confirming the obligations that the Armenian government assumed concerning the realization of the poverty reduction aims–set by the UN Millennium Declaration–Margarian accentuated the importance of the UNDP’s contribution to the measures taken by the Armenian government in that direction.

In his turn–the UNDP director appreciated the position of the Armenian government combining the poverty reduction measures with ecological management and the attempt to make the mechanisms of coordinating philanthropists’ activities more effective–dynamic–and transparent.

He expressed a hope that the aims of the Millennium Declaration will find their reflection in the struggle against poverty and national strategy of human development.

As the Armenian Government’s Public Relations Department informed Noyan Tapan–proceeding from the effective experience of the previous 10 years of the UNDP in Armenia–the sides indicated that the program may boost its contribution–particularly–in the spheres of peace-making and regional cooperation–export promotion–information technologies and community development–environmental management–and other spheres.

Markarian will return to Armenia over the weekend.
