Azeri Leader Slams US Armenian Military Agreement

BAKU (Armenpress)–"A military agreement signed between the US and Armenia’shows that the US is trying to ensure its own interests in the region and to gradually win the region’s countries over," Co-chairman of the Azerbaijani Social and Democratic Party (ASDP) Zardust Alizada told a 525-Gazet correspondent while commenting on the signing of the agreement on military cooperation between Armenia and the US.

Alizada said that in line with the agreement–the US will train the Armenian troops–introduce Western technology for managing the troops and provide uniforms and food. "All these will be carried out and they have already began to implement them," he said. By taking these steps–the US wishes to strengthen its influence in the region.

"Some people think that the US has come to Georgia to ensure this country’s territorial integrity. However–this is not so. The existence of separatists in the Pankisi gorge has been used as an excuse to deploy US troops in Georgia. This is why I am stating once again that all steps taken by the US in the region are aimed at strengthening its authority. It is a mistake to think that the US will help liberate Karabakh. The US will never ‘protect’ us. We should understand that no-one will help us," Alizada said.
