Azeris Call for Resumption War

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Azeri Defense Minister Safar Abiyev revived the calls for resuming hostilities in Karabakh to seek an end to the decade long Karabakh conflict if the negotiations with Armenia would not produce the desirable outcome. Abiyev made the commen’s last week during a meeting with his visiting Georgian counterpart David Tevzadze.

The same was repeated by Azeri Parliament Chairman Murtuz Aleskerov during his meeting with the Georgian military official. "Azerbaijan will resort to all possible means to liberate the occupied territories," he said–expressing regret that none of the four UN resolutions–adopted with regard to the conflict and demanding that Armenia pull out from the territories has been fulfilled.

In the meantime–a minor political grouping called "Free Azerbaijan" has called for launching partisan war to liberate Karabakh–as neither the OSCE Minsk group nor the UN nor any other international peace mediating organizations is able to end the conflict.

Leaders of the group however–proposed a meeting with members of the Armenian Diaspora at a neutral location to discuss the "return of the occupied Azerbaijani" territories. "If the talks turn out futile–the ‘Free Azerbaijan’ party will declare partisan war beginning August 1–2002," they said.
