In an effort to commemorate the 87th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in a united fashion–the religious leaders of the four denominations of the Western Region–Western Primate Arch. Vatche Hovsepian–Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian–Father Raphael Minassian of the Armenian Catholic Church and Rev. Ron Thomassian of the Armenian Evangelical community–and more than 15 organizations within the community came together to organize a the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide at the Montebello Martyrs Monument.
At the first meeting of the representatives of the denominations and the organizations–a United Committee for the Commemoration was established to carry out the administrative and organization of the event.
This decades long tradition as the principal commemorative event of a requiem mass and political rally will take place on Wednesday–April 24–2002 at 12:30 p.m. at the Montebello Martyrs Monument in Bicknell Park. Buses will depart for the monument from Armenian centers throughout Southern California. For more information please follow upcoming announcemen’s of the Commemoration Committee.
We call on our people to close their shops and businesses on Wednesday–April 24 and gather at the Montebello Martyrs Monument–to commemorate the 1.5 million victims.
The struggle and deman’s of the Armenian people will continue until the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the restitution of the just rights of the Armenian people.
