Greece Speaker Attends Genocide Commemoration

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A central political event dedicated to the 87th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide took place in the "Attikon" salon in Athens on April 21 upon the initiative of the Union of Armenian Rights of the Ramkavar-Azatakan Party and the Armenian National Committee of Greece.

Speeches were made by Chairman of the Greek Parliament Apostolos Kaklaman’s–Minister of the Press Ch. Protapapas–Armenian Ambassador to Greece Vahram Kazhoyan and other officials.

The participants in the event observed a minute silence paying tribute to the memory of the innocent victims. A documentary dedicated to April 24 was shown–and the "Hakob Papazian" choir performed works by Komitas and Kanachian. Then–a procession towards Athens’ Constitution Square was staged. Wreaths were also laid at the grave to the Unknown Soldier.

A political event dedicated to the 87th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was also held in Salonika on April 21. The Minister of Macedonia and Trakia–Salonika’s Governor–the city’s mayor and others made speeches at the rally. The official part of the event was followed by a concert of works by Sayat-Nova and Aram Khachaturian.
