Genocide Recognition Still Armenia’s Top Goal

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Information and Public Relations Department of the government provided the speech of Andranik Margarian in connection with the Commemoration Day of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide–which reads:

"This day – the Commemoration Day of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide committed by Ottoman Turkey at the beginning of last year–we bow down to the graves of the victims and render homage to their memory. Our peace-loving and creative people have no alternative to creating a powerful and thriving Armenia through united efforts: strong Armenia and developed economy are the first guarantee of the security of our people and country.

"We welcome any initiative directed at the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide–its denunciation–and thus restoration of historical justice–which will serve basis for excluding the possibility of preventing such crimes from recurring in the history of humanity–irrespective of the nation they are directed against.

"Proceeding from this concern–as well as from the willingness to co-exist peacefully and cooperate with neighbors and all the nations of the world in the 21st century–the Armenian Republic–having proved its adherence to the human values–still considers the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide as priority of its foreign policy.

"The world that has entered the third millennium–is not quiet yet: terrorism and violation against the free will of the nations and wars are a new challenge against the civilized world and in case the world does not resist this jointly and does not make conclusions from the lessons of the history–the consequences may be too serious."
