Europarliament Group to Continue Pressure on Turkey

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–"It’s quite clear that the rights of national minorities are not respected in Turkey–particularly from the point of the preservation of their cultural and historical monumen’s. The will and ability of preservation of national minorities’ rights must be the first term for Turkey’s membership to European Union," said deputy of United Left Group of European Parliament–member of Swedish Left Party’s Council Jinas Soestedet–who arrived in Yerevan on a one-day visit to Armenia Monday.

According to him–the United Left Group of European Parliament will continue its pressure on Turkey in order to make Ankara respect the rights of Christian national minorities living in the country–in other case no negotiations about the country’s membership to EU can be held. He also denied the rumors spread by Turkish press that Swedish parliament had changed its decision concerning Armenian Genocide recognition.
