Presidents of Armenia Brazil Praise Friendly Relations

BRAZIL (Armenpress)–An Armenian delegation led by President Robert Kocharian–arrived in the capital of the Federal Republic of Brazil on May 7–where Kocharian met with his Brazilian counterpart Fernando Enrike Kardozo.

At the request of the Brazilian president–Kocharian presented the situation and prospects for possible developmen’s in the South Caucasus–as well as the situation in Armenia. The two men also dwelt upon the possibilities of direct regional and international cooperation. A joint declaration was adopted after the meeting. The foreign ministers of the two countries also signed agreemen’s on cultural cooperation–as well as on defining the regime of country entry permissions for people possessing diplomatic and official passports.

According to the document–signed by the Armenian consul in Brazil Armen Yeghiazarian and head of Terakap Agency–the government of Brazil allocated a territory of 15,700 square meters for building an Armenian Embassy in Brazil.

It should be mentioned that since 1998–Brazil has not had an Armenian ambassador–although there is a consulate operating in San Paolo. Yeghiazarian said that over the last years about 50 Brazilians each year received permission to travel to Armenia. This number reached 100 in 2001.

A ceremony of starting the construction of the Armenian Embassy building was also held on May 7 with the Armenian president–delegation members and representatives of the Armenian community participating.
