Representatives Discuss Laying Meghri Marand Fiber Optic Cable

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A meeting of representatives of Armenia–Greece and Iran was held at the Armenian Ministry of Transport and Communication on May 15 within the framework of the trilateral agreement on cooperation signed by these countries. The meeting discussed the project of laying a fiber-optic communication cable between the Armenian town of Meghri and the Iranian town of Marand. This issue was included in the trilateral agreement in June 2001 in Tehran.

The Deputy Chief of the Head Department for Communication and Information of the Armenian Ministry of Transport and Communication Greigory Sahinian said that the realization of the project will create a new connection for Armenia and the reliability of communication will increase. According to representative of the Greek OTE company Vasilis Kapsis–"It is advisable for Iran to be a transit country and ensure a line of communication from its border to the principal main."
