Foreign Minister Positively Assesses Results of Conference

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian said in a press conference on Friday that Armenian authorities positively assess the two-day work of the second Pan-Armenian forum. "We highly assess the work as a sequel to the interrupted process of the first forum. We hail all our compatriots from the Diaspora–their dedication and assistance in the matter of continuing this process," Oskanian said.

At the same time Oskanian said the state would give its final estimation to the forum only after practical results are achieved. In this regard–he said that draft letters are to be sent out to all Armenian organizations and individuals who took part in the forum were being prepared. These structures are to present candidates for the establishment of working groups in four directions: organizational-structural issues of Armenia-Diaspora; information and mass media; economy and social-economic development; and education–culture and science. The working groups are expected to be set up by the end of June. Each group will include 25-30 people. The groups will be in charge of developing programs targeting the mentioned directions–as well as realize the seven programs that were approved by the forum.

The minister expressed hope that the first meeting of the working groups will be held this fall "to mark the beginning of a serious progress in Armenia-Diaspora relations and set the programs going."

Oskanian said that the dates of the next forum are still to be decided: probably–it will be held "no later than in three years and no sooner than in two years."
