YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The 100th birthday anniversary of the outstanding Armenian conductor-composer Tatul Altunian will be marked this year. Deputy Minister of Culture–Youth Affairs and Sport of Armenia Karen Aristakesian announced at a press conference on June 27 that a jubilee commission has been set up following the premier’s order in this connection.
The deputy minister emphasized that after Komitas the talented master continued the search and treatment of Armenian folk songs–making them purely national–without any excesses. For 40 years Tatul Altunian educated people with his folk songs–and created traditions of folk songs.
Karen Aristakesian pointed out that a collection of Altunian’s selected works has been published on the occasion of the jubilee. Lectures are due to be delivered at the State Conservatory after Komitas–and TV and radio programs are expected to be organized as well. The Song and Dance Ensemble founded by the Maestro–as well as other deserved groups and individual performers of Armenia will perform. An exhibition dedicated to the life and activities of the Maestro will open at the Archive Agency. The events will end in a jubilee concert at the Spendiarian National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.
