Genocide Recognition by Slovakia Put on Hold

BRATISLAVA (Noyan Tapan)–The Slovakian opposition party’s (HZDS) discussions concerning the official recognition of the 1915 Armenian genocide came to a halt as a political crisis erupted.

A Noyan Tapan news correspondent in Bratislava reported that opposition forces have called for the government’s resignation and have scheduled an emergency session of parliament this month to vote upon the matter.

As the September elections near–the opposition’s decision will cause much political damage to the current government even if a sufficient number of votes calling for the removal of the government by the parliament are not cast.
