Amazon First Opera Composed by Armenian Woman

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–French-Armenian Eugenie Alesian is actually the first Armenian woman composer–who has composed an opera. It was staged by the producer Charlie Kubeserian in Paris. Though the opera bears the name "Amazon," it tells a modern story.

The opera was given a very warm welcome by Paris press. Critics described it as a "pathetic and sensitive story–a portrait of a woman–expressing the present reality."

Eugenie Alesian is presently visiting Yerevan. Meeting with Armenian reporters on Tuesday–she said she was now planning to stage her opera in Armenia. The French Embassy in Armenia–Armenian culture and other organizations–including the foundation headed by the singer Barsegh Tumanian have pledged their help.
