Ambassador Says no Anti Armenian Attitudes in Russia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s Ambassador to Russia Armen Smbatian–in an interview with Noyan Tapan–said that there is no negative attitude towards Armenia’s in Russia. Ambassador Smbatian is inclined to think that the latest anti-Armenian manifestations in Russia are purely connected with domestic disputes.

According to Smbatian–similar cases have always occurred in Russia–however–presently–for some reason–mass media is paying greater attention to these instances. Ambassador Smbatian ruled out that the anti-Armenian clashes may have been pre-planned. At the same time–Smbatian did not exclude that there are internal forces in the country that are interested in similar incidents in pursuit of their own goals.

The ambassador is sure that they are not at all aimed against the Armenian people or Armenia. Ethnic problems–the ambassador underlined–arouse great interest and may become a subject of speculations–however it is Russia’s internal problem.

"I think there are no occasions for worry," he said. It is another question that a great many Armenia’s now illegally stay and work in Russia–which is impossible in any other country. According to Smbatian–steps to control illegal immigration will soon be taken in Russia–and it can arouse some anxiety.
