ARF Rep. Comments on Karabakh Elections

YEREVAN (Yerkir)–"It is important for the upcoming August 11 Nagorno-Karabakh presidential elections to proceed in a free–fair and untainted manner–clear from who gets elected president," announced National Assembly Foreign Relations Committee vice-president and ARF Central Committee representative Armen Rustamian during a press-conference held on July 30.

In his statement–Rustamian noted that the structure through which democratic elections can take place has already been grounded in Karabakh and will guide the state through its third presidential election. Rustamian stated that the republic is in the process of shaping its electoral system in accordance with international standards–and has passed major hurdles by properly recognizing the individual rights of the country’s inhabitants and basing the state’s legal system around international norms.

Rustamian will act as an observer during the presidential elections.
