BAKU (Noyan Tapan)–World Association of Newspapers President Seok Hyun Hong and World Editors Forum President Gloria Anderson expressed deep concern for the employees of the Azerbaijani "Monitor" monthly publication.

In a letter addressed to Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev on behalf of the 18,000 members of the World Association of Newspapers representing 100 countries–the intolerant stance adopted by Azerbaijan towards the staff of the "Monitor" was condemned. In particular–the letter noted a July 29 court case that imposed a fine of 50 million manats ($13,000) on the publication’s editor and founder Almira Houseinova and reporter Aynoulla Fadoullayev.
