Four Armenia’s Held for ‘Spying for Azerbaijan’

ARMENIA (RFE/RL)–The Armenian ministry of national security announced on Wednesday that it has arrested four unnamed citizens of Armenia on suspicion of spying for Azerbaijan.

The ministry said in a statement that the four individuals were arrested this month and charged with high treason.

The statement did not specify what the charges stem from or any other details of the criminal proceedings. Nor did it identify any of the accused. The statement alleged only that they worked for Azerbaijani special services.

No Armenian national has been tried and convicted of spying for Azerbaijan so far.

The two neighboring states remain in an undeclared state of war despite the 1994 cease-fire in Nagorno Karabakh.
