Press Conference with All Armenia Fund VP

GLENDALE–A press conference with Gagik Haroutiunian–vice-president of the All-Armenia Fund Board of Trustees and president of the Constitutional Court of Armenia–was held on August 21 in the "Brandview Collection" hall in Glendale.

The press conference–organized by the Armenia Fund’s Western USA Board of Directors–took place on the eve of events scheduled in Las Vegas–on August 24–in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the All-Armenia Fund.

The opening remarks on behalf of the Fund’s Board of Directors were made by Armenia’s Consul-General–Valeri Mkrtumian. He introduced Haroutiunian–who will be attending the 10th anniversary celebrations at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

In his remarks–Haroutiunian stressed the importance of the Armenia Fund–noting that the construction of the North-South highway in Karabakh is an essential undertaking–taking into account that the road will constitute the backbone of that liberated Armenian territory.

Due to the financial assistance of the entire Armenian nation–that road–which has been under construction for several years–will link numerous towns in Karabagh to the highway and each other. It is also important economic development–in that it will play a role in opening up the area to the outside world.

Haroutiunian stressed the importance of maintaining by the sweat of the brow that which has been achieved through the blood of those who sacrificed themselves to free Karabakh.

Haroutiunian stated that by decision of the All-Armenia Fund’s Board of Directors–the highway will be divided into segmen’s of various lengths–based on the amount of donations–with signs displaying the names of the respective donors.

He pointed out that the Fund enjoys the support of Armenia’s not only in the Diaspora but also in Armenia–with Armenia’s businessmen participating in initiatives in both the earthquake zone and Karabakh.

The Fund has also worked to establish closer relations with the Armenia’s of Russia–Haroutiunian said. As a result–the Armenian community in Russia–after that of the United States–is the second most important source of assistance to Armenia.

He also pointed out–however–that the Fund has not yet realized all of its objectives; accordingly–the expectation is that this November–via the planned Telethon–Armenia’s worldwide will bring an even greater degree of participation in the work of the Fund.

After his report–Haroutiunian answered questions from the press regarding the political life of Armenia. He called on all Armenia’s to accept their share of responsibility toward the homeland–because the guarantor of Armenia’s’ aspirations and future is the well-being of Armenia’s who are living on the very lands on which Armenian blood has been shed.
