TARC Opposition Increases With 13 New Signatories

BRUSSELS–Over 120 grass-roots European organizations and institutions have now signed the joint declaration expressing concerns about the re-emergence of TARC (Turkish Armenian Reconciliation Commission)–reported the European Armenian Federation (ANC of Europe). This milestone marks the addition of 13 organizations to the overall list.

"The European Armenian Federation is pleased to see Armenian grassroots organizations–representing a vast cross-section of the European Armenian community–united in sending a strong message against further attempts to obstruct Armenian Genocide recognition efforts worldwide," explained European Armenian Federation chairwoman Hilda Tchoboian.

The 13 new signatories include:

– Foundation for Armenian Studies – Bochum–Germany

-Armenian National Cultural Center – Dortmund–Germany

-Union Armnienne de Suisse Geneva–Switzerland

-ARF Christapor Chapter – Valence–France

-ARF Nor Seround – Valence–France

-Armenian Blue Cross – Valence–France

-Homenetmen Valence – France

-M.C.A. – Valence–France

-Radio A – Valence–France

-A.R.F. Almelo–The Netherlands

-Homenetmen – Almelo–The Netherlands

-Hay Doon – Almelo–The Netherlands

-Ramgavar Azadagan Gousagtsoutioun – Greece

This grass-roots European initiative was launched following rumors announcing the re-emergence of TARC under a different form.

The Joint Declaration denounces the harmful role of the previous ‘Commission,’ which was designed to provide an alibi to Turkey to obstruct the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Representing Armenian communities across Europe–the more than 120 signatory organizations have declared vigilance against this attempt to offer amnesty to the Turkish state before it recognizes or assumes responsibility for the gravest crime against humanity–that of genocide.

"According to press accounts from this past July–attempts to renew TARC were to be dissolved. We can only support this outcome–as it is clear that this misguided undertaking has no future," added Laurent Leylekian–Executive Director of the European Armenian Federation.

The complete list of the signatories is available on the FEAJD website www.feajd.org.
