The 55th Annual Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s)–’Rebuilding Societies Emerging From Conflict; A Shared Responsibility,’ took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York–from September 9 through 11.
The Event was organized by the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) in partnership with the NGO/DPI Executive Committee and its Planning Committee. In addition to 5 plenary panels and 30 NGO Midday Workshops–the conference featured keynote speeches by the UN Deputy Secretary-General–the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and other dignitaries.
Over 1,700 NGO representatives from about 90 countries who are associated with the UN-DPI and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)–attended the Conference which explored the role of the international community in supporting societies emerging from conflict–and examined the common experiences of these efforts–their shortcomings–successes–and best practices already developed.
The Armenian Relief Society Inc. held a midday workshop on Tuesday–September 10th–’From Less Than Zero: Opportunities In Rebuilding Economies.’ Dr.Sevag Avakian–Maral Chalian–Fred Krshnit and Krissy Kazarian were the featured speakers.
A large number of ARS members from Canada–US and Lebanon attended the conference.
