Georgian Rep. Dismisses Anxiety of Javakhk Armenians

TIBLISI (Armenpress)–Geogia’s representative in the Javakhk province–Temur Mosiashvili–announced that the opening of an Armenian Consulate in Akhalkalaki is not a predominant issue. Prime News quoted him as saying: "It is more important to implement a state program on social-economic development in the region," According to him–the implementation of such a program–which would bring about the creation of new jobs–would remove tensions caused by the closure of the Russian military base in Akhalkalaki.

Mosiashvili also said that the Georgian leadership is concerned about the situation around Javakhk–but "the pessimistic premonitions of the Georgian mass media concerning the province are groundless."

He stated that there are some forces negatively influencing the region–but that the general opinion and sentiment of the majority of Armenia’s living in Javakhk and Ninotsminda provinces–is that they consider themselves full-fledged citizens of Georgia.
