ATHENS–A delegation of the Central Committee of ARF Greece met on Thursday with Armenia’s defense minister Serge Sarkissian and his delegation. The meeting–which lasted an hour–took place at the Armenian Embassy in Athens. The ARF delegation included Krikor Erchenian–Kaspar Garabedian–Liza Avakian and Krikor Mkhigian. The editor of ‘Azad Or’ newspaper also attended.
The Armenian Ambassador to Greece–Vahram Gajhoian–advisors Garine Danielian and Rafael Zakarian–and Consul General Hrachya Hovahannisian also participated. The Defense Ministry’s delegation included Deputy Minister Lieutenant-General Yuri Khatchadourov–and the head of the Ministry’s Council on Foreign Affairs and Military Cooperation–Major-General Mikael Melkonian.
Sarkissian briefed the delegation on the intent of his visit to Athens–and about his meetings with counterpart Yano Papandoni–the Defense Minister Greece.
Discussions between the delegation and Sarkissian included the input of the CC of ARF Greece in strengthening Armenia-Greece inter-governmental relations–as well as implementation of future ARF projects tied to this issue.
Participants also discussed the present political–social–and economic situation of Armenia–and the future outlook of the country’s development.
Talks on the direction of existing negotiations and developmen’s in seeking a just political solution to the present situation of Nagorno-Karabagh became an interesting topic of conversation during the meeting.
Sarkissian presented the current status of Armenia’s military–and its importance in ensuring Armenia’s security.
Talks also focused on overcoming economic and social difficulties that the Armenian population of Javakhk face.
