ARF representatives meet with Renewed Communist Party of Armenia and National Self-Determination Union
YEREVAN (Yerkir)–National Assembly (NA) member and the leader of the Renewed Communist Party of Armenia (RCPA)–Yuri Manukian– called today’s meeting with the ARF "long expected and unexpected."
ARF Armenia Supreme Body (SB) chairman–Armen Rustamian–and NA’s ARF faction leader–Aghvan Vartanian met on October 9 with RCPA’s Yuri Manukian–Hrant Voskanian and Melik Ohanjanian. During the meeting–the sides discussed ensuring stability and an atmosphere of tolerance in the upcoming elections–as well as improving the state governing system.
After the talks Yuri Manukian said that RCPA considers the ARF principles–and especially the ‘local coalition’s’ model acceptable. "We will–quite possibly–utilize such examples," he said.
The sides also agreed that–despite the past problems and considering that the country is independent–this is the opportunity to collaborate.
Earlier in the day–ARF representatives met with the National Self-Determination Union (NSU) delegation composed of Baruyr Hayrikian–Norair Khanzadian and Hagop Yumushudian. ARF’s Armen Rustamian and Aghvan Vartanian introduced their views concerning fair and open elections as well as the need to form a capable parliament.
SDU representatives also agreed on the proposed mechanism for running legitimate election campaigns based on political platforms.
The sides spoke of serious faults in the election code which go against democratic norms–considering the changes made to quotas on proportion and majority.
