Sister Cities Proposal for Glendale and Gapan Underway

GLENDALE–On the eve of October 15–the city of Glendale gave the green light to the ANC of Glendale to undertake necessary steps to unite the city of Gapan–Armenia and Glendale–CA as ‘Sister Cities.’

Back in January–the ANC of Glendale had sent a letter to the mayor’s office proposing a sister city program between Glendale and Gapan. Mayor Rafi Manoukian–in acknowledging the proposal–replied with a letter containing proper procedures–guidelines–and documentation to assist in preparing an official proposal.

The ANC immediately organized a non-profit committee to meet the required status mandated by the City Council. The Sister City Program committee then filed the necessary paperwork and documentation; the committe will now apply to the Internationl Sister City Program and the process of uniting Glendale and Gapan will be underway.

In presenting the proposal to the Glendale City Council meeting–the chairperson of the committee–Bianca Manoukian explained that the program would ‘build bridges’ in improving cultural diversity between Glendale and Gapan. In addition the Progam would create a rapport between the two cities with the formulation of arts–culture–economic development–education–environment–technology–and health projects–and most importantly in conducting youth activities.

Mayor Manoukian agreed and encouraged Council members to accept Gapan as the fourth ‘Sister City’ to Glendale. He then explained that Glendale has two sister cities with Mexico–and another with Japan. The Council members applauded and looked forward to having Gapan as the fourth ‘Sister City’ to Glendale.
