Dinner Held to Benefit ARS Javakhk Projects

SHERMAN OAKS–On the initiative of the Regional Executive of the Armenian Relief Society-Western Region–a unique dinner took place on November 16th at the Sherman Oaks home of Vahakn and Baizdar Tovmassian.

The undertaking was organized by the Javakhk Fund Committee of the Armenian Relief Society–Inc. (ARS).

During her speech–Minassian stressed that the population of Javakhk is undergoing an extreme socio-economic crisis; there is therefore a need to provided immediate assistance to Javakhk Armenia’s.

The chair of the ARS Javakhk Fund committee Haigoush Kohler–ARF Western USA Central Committee representative Hovig Saliba–ARS Central Executive members Hasmig Derderian and Anahid Meymarian–and ARS-WR regional executive chair Sonia Peltekian were present at the gathering.

Yerkir newspaper reported a new building of the regional hospital in Akhalkalak opened November 17; the ARS was instrumental in the renovation process as well as procurement of medical equipment.

Georgia’s representative in the Samtskhe-Javakhk region–Teymuraz Mosiashvili as well as the head of the Georgia’s regional policy department Irakli Bojolidze–and representatives of the Armenian Relief Society’s (ARS) Javakhk Medical Assistance Commission Norayr Tavtian and Valeri Abrahamian attended the opening ceremonies.

The head of the hospital Dr. Alexan Torosian thanked the health ministries of Georgia and Armenia as well as the ARS for their contributions in restoring and equipping the hospital.

Der Samvel–the spiritual leader of the Akhalkalak Soorp Khatch church blessed the new building.
