The Regional Executive of Hamazkaine-Western America officially announced the creation of a new unit on Armenian Folk Instrumen’s. It will be headed by prominent conductor Armen Mantagounian.
The purpose of the new division is to preserve Armenian Folk music and to generally promote the values of Armenian Music.
The new Hamazkaine division is actually the former Los Angeles Armenian Folk Instrumen’s Ensemble which was formed back in 1978 by several music enthusiasts who succeeding in promoting Armenian music in various American and Canadian cities–paying particular attention to the treasures of the ‘Ashugh-Kusan’ musical heritage. It is now a part of the Hamazkaine family.
In its first official statement–the new division stressed the urgency of meeting new challenges of the millennium with the participation of the numerous professional musicians now residing in the Diaspora.
