YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Iran-Armenia parliamentary friendship group–composed of the Iranian Majlis–and the Armenia-Iran friendship group of the Armenia’s National Assembly met in Yerevan on December 12. During the talks–Iran attached great strategic importance to the development of Armenian-Russian relations with the development of Iranian-Russian relations. The meeting also sought to take steps to widen Armenia-Greece-Iran trilateral economic relations.
The head of the Armenia-Iran parliamentary friendship group of the RA National Assembly Levon Davtian stressed direct contact for future cooperation. A member of the group Galust Sahakian–speaking about economic development–focused on possible coordination of legislation and boost in investment.
Davitian stated that the development of bilateral economic relations must reach the level of political relations between the two countries. The Iranian side praised negotiations between the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan directed at a peaceful settlement of the Mountainous Karabagh conflict. They also expressed hope that Armenia–presiding over in Black Sea Economic Cooperation–will promote to Iran’s membership in the organization.
