ANCA WR Press Conference on Tuesday

Will address new regulation by Bush administration affecting Armenian nationals in America LOS ANGELES–CA–The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region will hold a press conference on Tuesday–December 17th to address the United States Department of Justice move last Friday to add the Republic of Armenia to a very select list of countries whose non-immigrant nationals over the age of 16 residing in the United States would be required to register with the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The press conference will be held at the ANCA-WR headquarters in Glendale.

The ANCA-WR–its local ANC chapters–and its thousands of supporters have launched a broad-based grassroots campaign to reverse the decision reached by the Department of Justice. Over 10,000 ANCA supporters have already sent WebFaxes to President Bush urging him to rescind the Justice Department’s order regarding Armenian immigran’s. Individuals wishing to object to the Justice Department’s action and who seek to participate in the ANCA’s grassroots campaign are urged to visit

"The ANCA-WR and our large network of supporters are working around the clock on this issue," commented ANCA-WR Government Affairs Director Ardashes Kassakhian.

"We are also working very closely with members of Congress–elected officials–Armenian community leaders and coalition partners to address this issue."

"It is our intent and expectation to have the Bush Administration and specifically–Attorney General John Ashcroft–rescind their discriminatory order regarding Armenian immigran’s in America. Clearly–a mistake has been made by the Department of Justice. Equating Armenian nationals to those from countries that are known to harbor Al-Qaeda cells–is outrageous," he added.
