ARF Addresses Issues of Armenia’s Minorities

YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Representatives of sixteen ethnic minority communities met on Wednesday at the ARF Simon Vratsian Center in Yerevan to meet with ARF leaders and advisor to the president of Armenia Razmik Davoyan.

The meeting addressed issues related to the rights of ethnic minorities in Armenia.

ARF Armenia Supreme Body (SB) member Ardashes Shahbazian said that having protected the rights of Armenia’s throughout the world who had suffered the tragedy of the genocide–the ARF realizes the necessity to protect the rights of ethnic minorities living in Armenia.

The leader of the Russian community Ivan Semyonov suggested that–in order to ensure passage of laws favoring ethnic minorities– minorities should have representation in the National Assembly. National Assembly ARF faction member Mushegh Mikaelian suggested the until that time–ethnic minorities may present their issues to the ARF which–in turn–will raise these issues in the National Assembly on behalf of the minorities.

Participants also suggested organizing a library and operating a cultural center for ethnic minorities in Armenia.
