ARS Celebrates International Women’s Day

GLENDALE–In celebrating International Women’s Day–that marks and honors accomplishmen’s of women–the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) has organized activities worldwide. Locally–the Public Relations Committee of the ARS of Western USA has planned week-long activities.

In Southern California a unique art exhibit of Armenian women artists–as well as a forum are scheduled.

On Friday–March 7–a wine and cheese reception at Harvest Gallery in Glendale will kick off an exhibit dedicated to the works of 17 Armenian women artists. The exhibit will feature oil and watercolor paintings in addition to ceramics–as well as a rare collection of fine Armenian needle work–embroidery and crochet.

The opening reception will be held Friday–7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Harvest Gallery located at 938 North Brand Blvd. in Glendale.

The exhibition will remain at the gallery until March 16th. Gallery hours are 11:00 am to 7:00 pm daily; until 9 pm Thursday and Friday.

On Saturday–March 15 a day-long forum will be held at the Glendale Public Library featuring topics ranging from ‘Phenomenal Women’ to ‘Women in Film.’ The Library is located at 222 E. Harvard–in Glendale. The forum will be conducted in English and will be held 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The public is invited to attend both events.

Throughout its 93-year history–the Armenian Relief Society has nurtured innovative and caring women–and promoted their efforts to expand horizons and pass on their rich heritage to future generations. The organization’s humanitarian efforts have been recognized worldwide; the ARS was the was the first Armenian humanitarian organization to gain non-governmental organization (NGO) status in the United Nations.
