Actor Khachik Araradian Dies

HOLLYWOOD–Prominent Diasporan actor and expert reciter of poetry–91-year old Khachik Araradian passed away at the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital on Tuesday–April 1–after a two-week hospitalization. Dedicated to a life of serving his nation through art–Khachik Araradian was born in Aintab in 1912 and belonged to the generation of expatriates who–while living in Diaspora–not only struggled to survive but also to preserve the Armenian identity.

A true pioneer of that struggle–Khachik Araradian immersed himself in the study of Armenian language and literature. Even as a child–he displayed a unique talent for poetry recitation.

Though a photographer by training–Araradian–beginning from his years in Aleppo to his life in Los Angeles–dedicated his life to acting and poetry recitation. He was not only intelligent–but always cheerful and full of enthusiasm.

He was a founding member of the Hamazkaine "Kaspar Ipegian" theatrical group–that performed Levon Shant’s works.

From a young age–Araradian became a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation.

Araradian immigrated to Los Angeles in 1977–and for about ten years–gave lessons in poetry recitation in various Armenian schools–including Mesrobian–Alec Pilibos–Ferrahian and Chamlian.

Requiem services will be conducted on Tuesday–April 8 – 10 PM–at the St. Mary’s Church of Glendale. Funeral services will take place at the Hollywood Hills Cemetery.
