President Kocharian’s April 24 Message

"THE EFFORTS OF ARMENIA IN THE INTERNATIONAL ARENA ARE CONDITIONED BY THE SINCERE ASPIRATION TO HAVE NORMAL RELATIONS WITH ALL OUR NEIGHBORS."

Today–on the day of remembrance for the victims of the Armenian Genocide–all Armenia’s as well as our friends–bow their heads to the memory of the innocent victims.

At the start of the 20th century the Ottoman Empire planned and perpetrated a crime that has no parallel in history. It has caused grave lamentation for not only the survivors of the Genocide–but also the entire Armenian population.

With the belief that this crime against humanity must be recognized and condemned by all of mankind–including the people of Turkey–and to convey the just expectations of Armenia’s–we embrace the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Armenia’s foreign policy.

A clear and comprehensive international public position is not merely necessary in the sense of reinstituting historical justice; the efforts of Armenia in the international arena are conditioned by the sincere aspiration to have normal relations with all our neighbors.

Dear compatriots of Armenia–Artsakh and the Diaspora,

The government serves to express the expectations and aims of its people. We are committed to continue exerting efforts in this direction–relying on our unified and resolute national force.

In commemorating the memory of our martyrs–we reaffirm our determination to construct a solid government and a free and civilized society in which man holds the greatest value.
