US Voter Guidelines for NA Elections And Referendum

As mandated by the Electoral Code of Armenia’s Constitution and the Law on Referendums–National Assembly elections in the Republic of Armenia–as well as a referendum on proposed amendmen’s to Armenia’s constitution will be held on May 25–2003.

Citizens of Armenia who reside in foreign countries are allowed to participate in the referendum–as well as in the proportional (party) balloting for parliamentary elections–in order to cast votes for parties and party alliances contesting seats in the National Assembly.

Armenian citizens residing in the United States can visit the electoral precincts formed in the United States to receive additional information about political parties and party alliances participating in the parliamentary elections–and to obtain information on the proposed amendmen’s to the Constitution.

WHERE TO VOTE: ELECTORAL PRECINCTS

Voting will take place at the same polling stations set up for the February 19–2003 presidential elections.

Four electoral precincts have been established in the United States to allow citizens of the Republic of Armenia residing in the United States with temporary or permanent status to cast their ballots in the May 25 referendum:

– Permanent Mission of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations–119 East 36th Street–New York–NY 10016

– Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the United States–2225 R Street–NW–Washington–DC 20008

– Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia–50 North La Cienega Boulevard–Suite 210–Beverly Hills–CA 90211

– Armenian Society of Los Angeles–221 South Brand Boulevard–Glendale–CA 91204

VOTER REGISTRATION

Armenian citizens who already registered to vote or have already cast ballots at any of the precincts during the 2003 Presidential elections do not need to register again.

The citizens of the Republic of Armenia who are eligible to vote–and have not yet registered at any of the precincts–must register to vote at the following Armenian diplomatic missions in the United States–depending on their residency/geographic location:

Permanent Mission of Armenia to the UN–New York City; Embassy of Armenia to the US–Washington–DC; Armenian Consulate General–Los Angeles.

Voter registration forms may be obtained from one of the above diplomatic missions–and are available online at the Embassy of Armenia website: www.armeniaemb.org.

The completed Voter Registration form may be submitted in person–and by fax or mail–and cannot be presented by telephone.

VOTING PROCEDURE ON ELECTION DAY

On Election Day–Sunday–May 25–2003– voters may cast ballots between their local hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (8:00 – 20:00) at the precinct where they are registered to vote–by appearing in person and presenting their Armenian passports.

Armenian citizens residing in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area can vote at any of the two polling stations there.* The voter list at both of the Los Angeles polling stations will be uniform and will be posted at both sites–but VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS NEED TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE CONSULATE GENERAL.
