KCET Presents PBS’s ‘Images of the Armenian Spirit’

LOS ANGELES–During its membership drive to take place in August–KCET will premiere on August 9–the hour-and-a-half long film "Images of the Armenian Spirit" on August 15–the station will replay the film–followed by the half-hour long documentary–"Lost Treasures of Christianity: The Ancient Monumen’s of Armenia."

See below for times and dates of "Images of the Armenian Spirit" broadcasts in California. "Images of the Armenian Spirit" celebrates the human’spirit and heritage of Armenian culture. Through an amalgamation of video–film–still photos–music and narration–the film captures more than 3,000 years of the art–culture and survival of the Armenian people. Beginning with an overview of Armenian lore and tracing Armenia’s origin to Mt. Ararat–the film is punctuated with stories of heroism and accounts of enlightened leaders–following the history of the entire people from its adoption of Christianity through the genocide of 1.5 million Armenia’s at the hands of Turkish warlords in 1915 and into the new millennium.

"Lost Treasures of Christianity: The Ancient Monumen’s of Armenia" explores the ruins of the medieval castles–churches and monasteries found in Armenia–including the artifacts and treasures found in these structures. The documentary follows Dr. Lucy Der Manuelian–an Armenian Art and Architectural History scholar–in her extraordinary journey across Armenia–the first country in the world to declare Christianity its official religion–to uncover its rich architectural legacy and to draw out long-neglected connections to Western Art.
