Hamazkayin 75th Celebrations Continue Organization honors Professor Richard Hovannisian with highest medal

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Hamazkayin Armenian Cultural And Educational Society–the organization’s western region organized a lecture/celebration on October 19 at Ferrahian School’s Avedissian Hall in Encino.

Speakers included public lecturer and Hamazkayin Central Executive (CE) member Vrej-Armen Artinian–and the Holder of UCLA’s Armenian Educational Foundation Chair in Modern Armenian History Professor Richard Hovannisian. On behalf of Hamazkayin Western Region’s executive–chairman Vahak Abcarian conveyed the body’s message–while Carmen Der Garabedian and Kourken Kassabian served as MCs.

A lively cultural program included performances by Hamazkayin’s Ani dance group–the Glendale chapter’s Kousan choir–the Valley chapter’s Nayiri children and youth dance group–and a poetry recitation by Sarkis Arslanian.

For his contribution to the field of Armenian History and Studies–Professor Hovannisian was decorated with Hamazkayin’s highest order by the CE members Edward Misserlian and Vrej-Armen Artinian.

On behalf of California legislators Jack Scott–Carol Liu–Dario Frommer and Adam Schiff–ANCA’s Ardashes Kassakhian presented certificates of appreciation to Kourken Kassabian.
