Palestinian Children Invited to Armenia for Life Saving Surgery

PARAMUS–The Co-Chairman of Medical Outreach for Armenia’s Arthur M. Halvajian–announced that–under a unique program "Children of Palestine," 2-year-old Rawan Hemaid and 6-year-old Musleh Radwan–along with their mothers and accompanying doctor–will arrive in Yerevan on November 7 for the children to undergo life-saving heart surgery at the Nork Marash Medical Center.

Funding for the surgery comes from Rotary Club International’s "Gift of Life" Program–Medical Outreach for Armenia’s Program–Nork Marash Medical Center’s International Patient Program–and the World Heart Foundation Program that provides heart surgery to needy children.

This unique program commenced more than a year ago when Halvajian–and the Chairman of the "Gift of Life" Program Robert Donno–spoke of providing life-saving heart surgery for Palestinian children through the "Palestine Children’s Relief Fund."

During the following year–visas and other necessary travel documen’s were issued to the children–their mothers–and their doctor for travel from Palestine to Armenia–with the assistance of Foreign Ministry officials Rouben Shugarian–Hratch Hovanessian and Armen Yegeryan–and Honorary Consulate of the State of Israel Tsolak Momjian.

In January 2003–the Chief of Pediatric Cardiology of the Nork Marash* Medical Center Dr. Karen Kurdov–who began the practice of pediatric cardiac care for Armenian children–traveled to the Mohammed Durra Hospital in Gaza–Palestine to select patients.

*The Nork Marash Medical Center is a specialized medical institution providing high quality heart care for population in Armenia and neighboring CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries. The NMMC provides all kinds of surgical and non-surgical cardiac medical care including modern interventional cardiology and minimally-invasive cardiac surgery. The Pediatric Cardiac Clinic averages 3,000 patient-visits per year and provides additional services to promote cardiac care in the region.
