US Armenia Task Force Wraps up Meetings

(US Embassy Release)–The Fall 2003 meetings of the US-Armenia Economic Task Force (USATF) concluded November 5 in Washington–DC–after two days of productive discussion and review.

The meetings–the latest in a series of semiannual reviews of bilateral assistance programs and economic policy–focused on issues concerning the fight against corruption–US technical assistance for economic development–law enforcement–international trade and energy.

Armenia’s Minister of Finance and Economy Vartan Khachatryan–headed the Armenian delegation. Participants included delegates from the Armenian Ministries of Finance and Economy–Foreign Affairs and Energy–as well as representatives from the Central Bank–and the Customs Administration.

The US Government delegation was led by Ambassador Carlos Pascual–and included US Ambassador John Ordway and USAID-Armenia Director Keith Simmons–as well as a number of other Washington-based US Government officials.

The participants drew up a list of specific actions to guide economic cooperation between the two countries for the near future.

The next USATF meeting will be held in 2004 in Yerevan.
