Karabagh President Foresees Successful LA Telethon

STEPANAKERT (Armenpress)–The president of Mountainous Karabagh Republic Arkady Ghukasian–at a Tuesday press conference–spoke of his recent visits to France and nine US cities–to raise the level of awareness about Karabagh–and promote fundraising efforts by way of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund.

In his meetings with representatives of various Armenian organizations–Ghoukasian said that it is clear that the majority of Diaspora Armenia’s wants to see Karabagh develop–and a just and quick resolution to the Karabagh conflict.

Just last week–a phonathon was held in France to benefit Hayastan All-Armenian Fund projects in Karabagh; approximately $900,000 was raised to surpass last year’s European telethon results by $300,000.

Ghukasian is hopeful that the Thanksgiving Day–November 27 telethon in Los Angeles will attract many participants so that enough funds are collected to not only continue construction of North-South strategic highway–but to also build a polyclinic and a diagnostic center in Stepanakert.

He noted that major Diaspora benefactors are pleased with the implementation of programs in Karabagh and with the progress that has taken place there in recent years.

He urged citizens of Armenia and Karabagh to participate in the telethon–and expressed regret that the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund has no chapters in Russia and Lebanon.
