Pasadena ANC Honors Mayor Bill Bogaard at Annual Dinner Event

ELECTED OFFICIALS AND ANC ACTIVISTS HONOR PASADENA MAYOR WITH COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD

PASADENA–Along with elected officials–approximately 120 Pasadena ANC activists and supporters gathered at the renovated Pasadena Armenian Center–to honor Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard.

The evening’s Master of Ceremonies was Los Angeles City Planning Commissioner and long time ANC supporter Mike Mahdesian–who congratulated the ANC for honoring an outstanding public servant–Mayor Bogaard.

"Pasadena is a very culturally diverse city–reflecting the traditions and cultures of different communities. Mayor Bogaard has done an exceptional job of reaching out to these communities and making everyone feel like part of one large family," stated Pasadena ANC Chair Shahan Stepanian. "It is fitting that the first recipient of the annual Pasadena ANC Community Leadership Award be Mayor Bill Bogaard."

The evening’s program included a video presentation of the Armenian National Committee of America–Western Region’s accomplishmen’s and speeches by State Senator Jack Scott–Assemblywoman Carol Liu–Pasadena Police Chief Bernard Melekian–Pasadena Councilmembers Chris Holden and Victor Gordo–and ANCA-WR Chair Raffi Hamparian.

The Mayor was also presented a special Congressional Recognition from Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Pasadena). Representatives of numerous community organizations and groups also attended the event–including the Pasadena Unified School District–the Armenian Relief Society of Pasadena–the Hamazkayin Cultural Association of Pasadena–Pasadena Armenian Youth Federation–St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church of Pasadena–Homenetmen Pasadena–the Armenian Aging Council of Pasadena–and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

ANC Pasadena Board member Suzanne Berberian thanked the Mayor for his dedication to Pasadena and its various communities–particularly the Armenian community. Pasadena’s Armenian community is one of the oldest Armenian communities in California–dating back nearly a century.

In 2004–along with Pasadena Police Chief Melekian and representatives of the Pasadena ANC–the Mayor will visit the Republic of Armenia and Pasadena’s Sister City of Vanatsor.

Mayor Bogaard was re-elected to serve a second term by a margin of 85%. The Mayor is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. After serving as a US Air Force Captain in Los Angeles and Casablanca–Morocco–he graduated from the University of Michigan Law School. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Education Foundation and the Pasadena YMCA.
