Canada’s Catholicosal Vicar Khajag Hagopian Bestowed Archbishop

MONTREAL (Horizon)–A Special ceremony took place on March 1 to honor Bishop Khajag Hagopian–Catholicosal Vicar of the Prelacy of Canada who was bestowed the title of Archbishop.

Community representatives gathered at the Armenian center in Montreal for the momentous event–including spiritual leaders of the Armenian Evangelical Church–and the Catholic community–representatives of affiliate organizations–Prelacy Executive Council and Representative Assembly members–local ARF and Central Committee representatives–as well as ARF Bureau member Hagop Der Khatchadourian.

Dr. Jirayr Basmadjian congratulated Archbishop Hagopian on behalf of the Representative Assembly. "I am pleased to announce that Catholicos Aram I–of the Great House of Cilicia–in a February 24–2004 letter–has bestowed the title of Archbishop to Catholicosal Vicar Khajag Hagopian," and invited the Archbishop to convey his message.

Archbishop Hagopian stressed the necessity of united efforts–be they with affiliate bodies or other religious communities and organizations.
