Krikorian?s Business Life Celebrates 15th Anniversary & Small Business Month

LOS ANGELES–Business Life Magazine celebrated its 15th Anniversary during Small Business Month at the Verdugo Hills Country Club in Glendale–attracting a sold out attendance.

Publisher and Editor-in-chief John Krikorian and vice president of marketing Gregory Krikorian started Business Life in May 1990–a four-color magazine–which initially focused on Glendale–Burbank–and Pasadena to enhance the communities and help develop community pride. It has expanded to include the San Gabriel Valley–with coverage from Ontario and Monrovia to the westerly portion of the San Fernando Valley.

John Krikorian said–"Capitalism benefits all of us. Little did we realize fifteen years ago when we launched Business Life in May that it coincided with Small Business Month–offering us the opportunity to celebrate."

Business Life has received the US Small Business Administration media award for "Small Business Advocate" and the Soroptimist International recognition for "Improving the Status of Women" in a 20 country region–along with many other recognition certificates.

"My parents came here in the mid-20’s as orphans and survivors of the Armenian Genocide," stated Gregory Krikorian. "They sowed the seeds of service to their adopted community and country. My mother volunteered for the YWCA in Connecticut–and my dad served in the Army National Guard–New Britain Auxiliary Police and became an Air Warden during the World War II Years," he noted. "This commitment to community giving and volunteer runs through all of my family." Krikorian–co-founder and Vice President Marketing of Business Life Magazine–was recently overwhelming elected to a second term on the Glendale Unified School Board and is involved in many community and civic organizations.

The celebration’s keynote speaker was Hector V. Barreto–US Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator–past resident of Glendale–and a former small business owner. Celebrating the magazine’s contribution to the region–Barreto noted–"We have a very entrepreneurial community. Business in the region is growing. Business Life offers a lot of valuable information for those in the region."

Certificates of commendations for the Anniversary were received from Governor Arnold Schwarznegger–who noted–"Your coverage (Business Life) has played an important role in enhancing the region’s business climate. California is a golden land of opportunity where all people can realize their dreams through ingenuity and perseverance. This milestone reflects the entrepreneurship that is a trademark of our great state."

Michael Antonovich–Supervisor–Fifth District–County of Los Angeles said in his letter to Krikorian–"Your leadership and your dedication to the magazine’s examination of our business life in the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valleys–Pasadena–Glendale and Burbank has had a positive impact on our business climate far beyond those borders."

Guests included leaders of the cities of Pasadena–Glendale–Burbank and the Los Angeles Community Development office–San Fernando and San Gabriel Valley Chambers of Commerce–the San Gabriel Economic Partnership–Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley–the Various Workforce Investment Boards–the Small Business Development Centers–along with multicultural business resources such as the Armenian American Chamber of Commerce–San Gabriel Valley Black Business Association–Latin Business Association various Asian chambers–the Armenian Relief Society–Armenian Council of America–and many other organizations civic and service from the region.
